• The Fairview Hotel Nairobi's entire staff are remarkably pleasant and will even help you plan your day and polish up your Swahili. They are professional and friendly yet not intrusive.

• There a couple of things going for the hotel's location...

  First, it is located outside the city center and therefore away from noise and smog.

  Second, it is easier to access Jomo Kenyatta and Wilson, the 2 busiest Kenya airports from here than most of the other Nairobi hotels.

  Third, trips to the popular Nairobi tourist destinations (that are certainly worth exploring!) are shorter and cheaper from here than any other major hotel.

  Fourth, because it is located on Bishops Road, opposite the Israel embassy, it is on the most guarded and therefore safest street in Nairobi. This, together with the hotel's own guards who thoroughly check all vehicles, ensures that you feel safe throughout your stay.

• The gardens are incredibly beautiful and well-cared for and are a great way to unwind after a long day at work.

  The highlight of the front gardens is a water feature set amidst an extensive rock garden. And, unexpectedly for a city hotel, the grounds are teeming with birdlife.

• The rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean and homey. Each has a good workstation with a large desk, comfortable chair and good lighting which are great for catching up on your work.

• The Fairview Hotel Nairobi rooms are a lot cheaper than the chain hotels' and are excellent value for money.

• The food is excellent and reasonably priced. There is a wide selection of snacks and formal meals. The breakfast is fantastic, the sushi astonishingly good and the brasserie food excellent. The wine cellar, with a knowledgeable sommelier on hand, will impress even the most discerning connoisseur. Overall, the themed restaurants help blunt the monotony of hotel food.

• The gym is well-equipped and the pool clean and quiet so you can swim with abandon.

• Residing in a first class room entitles you to enter the first class lounge which provides complimentary soft drinks and PCs for internet surfing.

• Compared to the breathtakingly beautiful gardens and the well-appointed public places, the rooms are rather basic, even Spartan.

• The Fairview hotel Nairobi doesn't have a sauna which would complement the excellent gym and pool well.

• Because the hotel is built in a low rise fashion, there are no elevators. So if you have problems climbing stairs, be sure to specify a room on the ground floor.

• The pool is not heated. So in the "winter" months of June and July, it is unappealing ice-cold.
