Forex bureaus offer far better rates than hotels and banks as the latter always charge FAT commissions on all transactions. It is also much easier, in a forex bureau than a bank, to negotiate for better rates than those displayed on the board, particularly if you are trading over US$ 1,000 or its equivalent so don't be embarrassed to use your haggling skills. If US$ is your primary currency, it is better to come with US$ 100 or 50 bills as smaller notes fetch a much lower rate, sometimes as much as 10 percent lower. Interestingly, this rule does not apply to Euros or British Pounds. Travelers' checks also fetch an appreciably lower rate than currency bills. And, if you plan to cash travelers' checks, remember to carry your receipt and passport with you as nearly all cashiers will demand to see them as proof of ownership.
