Masai Mara Lodges

"The Midrange and Budget Tented Camps in Masai Mara Cater for the Cost-Conscious Traveler"

When visiting the Masai Mara National Reserve, you will need to book one of the Masai Mara lodges. This is because, the Masai Mara, which is Kenya's most hypnotizing wilderness experience is located away from the Kenya cities and major towns.

Masai Mara LodgesAlthough there is no such thing as a "Masai Mara hotel," there are a lot of accommodations in the Masai Mara...

These are styled as "tented camps" at the high end and middle range of the spectrum and as "lodges" at the lower end.

Some of these accommodations are located within the game reserve itself while others are in the private quieter neighboring conservancies. Because the reserve is not fenced, both offer astounding opportunities to view Mara animals.

As is the case with the exclusive and luxury , each Masai Mare lodge is priced in US dollars per person per day (pppd).

The Midrange Masai Mara Lodges

The midrange tented camps in Masai Mara offer a memorable wilderness experience that is kind to your pockets. They charge US$ 200-349 pppd.
  • Located in Koiyaki, Karen Blixen Camp offers the best of both worlds. Its 22 tents are both a celebration of a bygone era and the contemporary modern conveniences. It provides splendid views of a river frequented by elephants, hippos and zebras.

  • Keekorok Lodge is located within the Mara Reserve. It occupies 80 acres of prime land adjacent the annual wildebeest migration route. So, during this season, there are a lot of wildebeest, zebras and their predators the lions, cheetahs and hyenas around the lodge.

  • Set amidst several mature wild olive and croton trees in Kioyaki conservancy, Kicheche Mara Camp offers first-rate service and good food. And, you don't have to go on a game drive to take a look at Kenya wildlife as these occasionally wander through the camp's unfenced grounds.

  • Located on the Oloololo Escarpment in a private conservancy bordering the Mara reserve, Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara is one of the popular Masai Mara camps. All the 40 tents have en suite bathrooms and private decks which afford its guests incredible views of the Mara's action-packed savannah.

  • Nestled around a bend of the meandering Talek River within the Masai Mara National Reserve, Mara Fig Tree Camp's accommodations consist of 70 luxury tents and cabins. Some of its unique offerings include balloon safaris and champagne bush dinners.

  • Situated on a bend in the Talek River, Mara Intrepids Lodge is located on one of the most stunning spots in the entire Mara ecosystem. A huge plus is Adventurers' Club which keeps kids aged 4-12 busy constructing mini Masai homesteads, making fire armed only a pair of sticks and learning to identify birds.

  • Mara Sopa Lodge is perched on the slopes of Oloongams Hills in the Mara Reserve. Its 50 huts' round crimson walls, thatch roofs and Masai artifacts are a constant reminder that you are in Masai country.

  • Mara Porini Camp, in the Ol Kinyei conservancy has 6 luxury tents nestled amidst a light acacia forest. It provides sweeping views over the savannah, hills, forest and rivers. Surreally, the camp is home to a sizable resident lion pride.

  • Porini Lion Camp is located on the banks of a seasonal river in the Olare Orok conservancy adjacent the Mara reserve. It offers a good opportunity to see hippos and big cats. Its 6 en suite tents are spacious and secluded.

  • Sarova Mara Camp Kenya offers you the amenities and security of a large lodge and the authentic-safari feel of a canvas tented camp. The latter is accentuated by the fact that you have to cross a wooden bridge over a stream to access the camp from the car park.

  • Sekenani Camp is located in the heart of the Mara reserve. Accommodations consist of 15 permanent tents that exude elegant simplicity. What sets it apart though is the fact that, unlike the other tented camps which are almost entirely foreigner-owned, it is co-owned with 26 Masai families.

  • House in The Wild, located in Ol Choro Oirua is nestled on a quiet spot on the banks of the Mara river and provides spectacular views of the Mara plains. Its 3 double bedrooms, central sitting and dining rooms make it ideal for medium sized families and groups that value their privacy.
