The Masai Mara Road Safari is an Affordable Kenya Safari to the Finest Kenya National ParkThe Masai Mara road safari is a 3-day affordable Kenya safari to the Masai Mara National Reserve, which is regarded as the most thrilling of the Kenya national parks. It is a great choice for those who find the Masai Mara fly in safari way too expensive or those who want to savor the Kenyan countryside and its spectacular landscapes. Transport is in the traditional mini-van with a pop-up roof for optimum wildlife viewing although you may opt for a 4x4 safari caravan instead. Day 01 - Drive to Masai Mara and First Game DriveYou will be picked up from your Nairobi hotels early in the morning by a professional driver-cum-guide. This drive will take you past the eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley where you will stop at strategic points for viewing and photography.
Don't let the bumpy, dusty or muddy road dampen your spirits as the adventure that awaits you will more than compensate for the exhausting ride. You will arrive at the designated Masai Mara camp to a freshening up towel, a welcome drink and might even be feted by colorfully dressed Masai moran dancers. After check in, the camp porters will assist you with your luggage and show you to your rooms (oops, tents whose only doors might well be zippable canvas flaps!). After settling down, you will proceed for lunch and catch your breath for the early afternoon, which is well-advised after the grueling start to your Masai Mara road safari. Later that afternoon, your driver-guide will take you for your first game viewing drive in the Mara. You might hear a lion roar or spot a cheetah sneaking up on its prey. Or see incredibly large herds of wildebeest grazing on the plains, an elephant matriarch trumpeting in anger. Or vultures impatiently circling predators feasting on a carcass, waiting their turn. At dusk, you will return to the camp for dinner and optional sundowners before catching a good night's sleep. Day 02 - More Game Drives in the African JungleYou will wake up to a lovely African sunrise and to the smell of freshly brewed Kenyan coffee and freshly baked cookies which will be ready for you at the lobby.
Early mornings, as well as early evenings, are the best time to see the big cats namely; the African lion, leopards and cheetahs, chasing or devouring some hapless prey. After about a 2 hour drive, you will return to the camp for a well-deserved buffet breakfast. And you will certainly be famished so you can look forward to relishing this. You could opt to laze around the camp - probably by the bar or pool for the rest of the morning and go for a game drive later in the afternoon. Or, you may prefer to head off to the hippo-crammed Mara River to witness the wildebeest migration which has been dubbed "the greatest wildlife spectacle" enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild while at it. Whichever option you settle for, there will be plenty of opportunity to see some African elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, lions and leopards. These are collectively referred to as the "big five" and you haven't fully witnessed a Kenya safari until you've checked them all off your must-see list. Dinner will be at your camp, afterwhich you will drift off to sleep, serenaded by sounds of the jungle - a lion roar right outside your canvass tent (it certainly sounds that way!), a hyena laughing next door and thundering waterfalls a little farther away. Day 03 - Return to NairobiYou will awaken to yet another beautiful African morning that will be heralded by the ceaseless chirping and singing of a choir of Kenya birds resolute on stealing the show from the "big five," "big cats" and even the enigmatic wildebeest! You will then enjoy a full buffet breakfast in your camp. After breakfast, you will check out and be driven back to your Nairobi hotel by your professional driver-guide. If you set off early enough, you might be able to squeeze in a visit to a Masai village and get a peek into the inimitable Masai culture and livelihood of the world-famous Masai people.
