Sarova Mara Camp Kenya is Located Within the Untrammeled Masai Mara

Sarova Mara Camp Kenya is located within the Masai Mara, the most thrilling of the Kenya national parks. It furnishes guests with front-row seats to the Mara exotic wildlife experience.

The endless plains and hills of Masai Mara roll before you at Sarova Mara, where you can witness the world's greatest wildlife spectacle...

Nearly 2 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras and gazelles plunge across the Mara River from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara National Reserve in search of greener pastures. Here, they are relentlessly pursued by the African Lion, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and scores of other predators.

But as good as that is, this breathtaking show isn't all that Sarova Mara Camp offers. The camp's sprawling grounds include manicured greens, a small forest of indigenous trees and shrubs that hosts scores of Kenya birds and a large pond stocked with various fish species.

Activities

Sarova Mara Game Camp offers a range of activities to help you experience the world-renowned Masai Mara in a deep, engrossing way that is rivaled by few other places. These include:

  • Birdwatching and spotting the Mara's 300 recorded bird species

  • Game drives in custom made and specially equipped Land Rovers that are driven by experienced guides

  • Walking safaris to help you experience the Mara natural wonder on foot

  • Hot air balloon rides to help you take in all the pulsating action from a vantage position 100 meters above ground. Each of these balloon rides is followed by an unforgettable bush champagne breakfast.

  • A freeform swimming pool with pool bar to help you both cool off and quench your thirst

  • A visit to a nearby Masai village furnishes insights into the mesmerizing Masai culture.

Guest Reviews

This section summarizes the reviews by actual Sarova Mara Camp guests.

What Travelers Liked

  • Location, location, location! The Sarova Mara Camp Kenya is located within the Masai Mara and just an electric fence away from the roaring lions. Enough said.

  • Friendly, polite, fast, caring and reliable staff is at your beck and spontaneously greet you with "jambo" at every encounter.

  • The tents are secluded, spacious and impeccably clean and challenge the current conception of the word "tent."

  • Great food. Sarova Mara has carved out an enviable reputation for superb assorted buffets that cater for most dietary needs. It also provides lovely picnic kits that enable you to spend the whole day on game drives instead of interrupting these in order to dash to the camp for lunch.

  • The camp has disabled access. The room is spacious enough to move around in a wheel chair, and the bathroom has a grab rail. It is also easy to maneuver around the dining room and other common areas.

  • The clinic and resident doctor are a huge plus when you are feeling under the weather.

  • The captivating Masai jump dancing by the reception every couple of nights is a window into the lifestyle of these elegant pastoralists.

What Travelers Disliked

  • Mosquitoes. While mosquitoes are an inalienable part of the African bush, fitting mosquito nets over the beds would certainly help. This is because the mosquito killing devices provided in the rooms cease to function when the camp's power is turned off at mignight.

  • Lights out. Electricity in the tents is provided by generators, which are turned off at midnight and not rekindled until the next morning so plan to be fast asleep by then or you will have to get by with the candles and flashlights provided in your tent.

  • The drinks are quite pricey. While this could be justified on account of the logistics needed to deliver these to the camp's remote location, these will cost you a lot more in the Mara than they will in the Kenya Cities and towns.

  • This is a fairly large Masai Mara lodge and it can get crowded during the wildebeest migration season. As such, it is not the most private of the Mara accommodations.

Summary

The Sarova Mara Camp Kenya is one of the few places in the world where you can stay in a clean and luxuriously appointed tent to intimately experience the wonders of nature.

If you have been considering staying at one of the midrange Masai Mara Lodges, the Sarova Mara Camp Kenya is certainly worth checking out.

It books up quickly though, particularly during the wildebeest migration season. So be sure to secure your booking as early as you are able.
