Resident Guest Reviews

This section highlights what real travelers liked and disliked about the Norfolk Hotel Nairobi.

What Guests Liked

  • Good location. The hotel is nestled in a corner of the city but its quiet atmosphere makes it an oasis of peace in the fast-paced Nairobi.

Owing to its central location, it is easy to organize excursions to the popular Nairobi tourist destinations such as the Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Safari Walk, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the Giraffe Center, home to about a dozen endangered Rothschild giraffes.

  • Norfolk Nairobi HotelThe renovated rooms are exquisite with marble vanities, large showers, functioning air conditioning and beautiful soft beds. Many of these rooms overlook the hotel's lovely tropical gardens and fountain.

  • The staff are genuinely passionate, love their work and are always eager to help.

  • The conference logistical arrangements are flawless and run like clockwork.

  • The buffet breakfast is excellent with fresh juices and made-to-order waffles and omelets.

  • Great décor in all the renovated rooms and public places.

  • The food, particularly in Tatu, the steakhouse, is delicious while Cin Cin offers a great selection of cocktails.

  • The heated pool provides a warm, welcome dip, particularly during the chilly months. It is also a good way to keep teenage kids busy while you catch up on the day's news.

  • An ATM conveniently located just round the corner from the hotel makes it easy to quickly and safely withdraw some Kenya currency.

What Guests Disliked

  • The service in the Norfolk Hotel Nairobi restaurants can be slow so plan to go for dinner a little earlier than you normally would.

  • The unrefurbished rooms are in urgent need of renovation as the décor is rather dated, some of the ACs and showers don't function as they should and the walls are paper-thin.

  • During the refurbishment, the hotel lost some of its character. For instance, some of the bathtubs were replaced with showers. So, if you enjoy to soak in a bath, you will be disappointed. A lot of the hotel's colonial charm has also been lost in the renovations.

  • Internet is pricey but slow.

  • The hotel rooms and services don't come cheap so if you are on a limited budget, this is probably not the right hotel for you.

Summary

The Nairobi Norfolk Hotel's very existence is steeped in history and the stunning photographs of colonial Kenya are a constant reminder of the hotel's colonial charm.

So, if you are looking for a Nairobi hotel with allure, elegance and history and are prepared to pay for a modest premium for these, you'll probably love the Norfolk Hotel Nairobi.
